Constable Marc Pinizzotto Obituary: Toronto Police Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

TORONTO, ON — Family members, friends, colleagues, and the broader community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Toronto Police Service Constable Marc Pinizzotto, a dedicated 18-year veteran who was tragically killed in the line of duty on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

The devastating shooting has left loved ones grappling with an immense loss as tributes continue to pour in for the 43-year-old officer, who is being remembered as a beloved husband, devoted father, hockey coach, and courageous public servant who put his life on the line to protect others.

A Life of Service and Dedication

Constable Marc Pinizzotto served with the Toronto Police Service for 18 years, most recently as a member of the elite Emergency Task Force (ETF) for the past five years. On the morning of June 11, he was part of a high-risk team executing a search warrant at an apartment building in North York’s Trethewey Drive and Black Creek Drive area. The operation was linked to an investigation into multiple shootings, including incidents targeting Toronto-area synagogues and the U.S. Consulate.

During the operation, an exchange of gunfire occurred, and Constable Pinizzotto was fatally shot. He was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead. Nicholas Bennett, 19, of Toronto, faces first-degree murder charges in connection with his death. Another suspect, Zara Jabbi, 19, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Beyond his police work, Marc was a former professional hockey player in Europe and a passionate volunteer coach with the Oakville Rangers. He was known for his leadership in the hockey community and for always making time to support his colleagues.

He is survived by his wife Andrea and their two children, Daniella (Dani) and Dominic.

Community and Police Tributes

The loss has reverberated across Toronto and beyond. Processions honored Constable Pinizzotto as his body was escorted, with hundreds of police officers, first responders, and community members lining the streets. Flags have been lowered to half-mast in various municipalities, including Oakville. Vigils, moments of silence (including at Blue Jays games), and other public gestures reflect the deep respect for his sacrifice.

His mother shared a heartfelt tribute, expressing that “our loving family is shattered” as they search for words amid the grief.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw and other leaders have highlighted Pinizzotto as a hero who exemplified courage and dedication. Online and in-person condolence books are available for the public to share messages of support.

Funeral Arrangements

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Toronto Congress Centre, North Building, 650 Dixon Rd, Etobicoke. Arrangements were made in partnership with the Pinizzotto family.

A Lasting Legacy

Constable Marc Pinizzotto’s death serves as a somber reminder of the risks faced daily by law enforcement officers. He leaves behind a legacy of service, family devotion, and community involvement that will not be forgotten. As the city mourns, support has been extended to his family through various initiatives, including a dedicated fund.
