Kyle Calder Hockey Death: MANNVILLE, ALBERTA / CHICAGO, IL — The hockey world is mourning the loss of Kyle Calder, a tenacious former NHL forward who played 10 seasons across five teams, passing away at age 47 following a brief illness on June 15, 2026.

Family, friends, teammates, and fans are remembering Calder for his grit on the ice, his time with the Chicago Blackhawks (where he was known for the energetic ‘ABC line’), and his later coaching work with youth programs like the Los Angeles Jr. Kings. Born January 5, 1979, in Mannville, Alberta, Calder was a 5th-round pick by the Blackhawks in 1997 and went on to record 294 points (114 goals, 180 assists) in 590 NHL games with Chicago, Philadelphia, Detroit, Los Angeles, and Anaheim.

His daughter Madison shared a touching tribute on Instagram, writing: “Never in a million years would I have thought this day would come. There will forever be a void in my heart but forever a spot just for you.” Tributes have poured in from the Blackhawks organization, former teammates, and the broader hockey community, highlighting his passion, intensity, and kind heart.

Calder also represented Canada internationally, winning gold at the 2003 World Championships. After retiring from playing, he coached and stayed involved in the game, leaving a lasting impact on players at all levels.

The cause of death was reported as a brief illness, with no further details released. The hockey community continues to honor his legacy as a dedicated athlete, coach, and family man. Our thoughts are with his wife, children (including aspiring player son Rylan), and all who loved him.
